Three adults are in custody in Bridgewater for allegedly robbing a Pictou County woman Monday night at 5:30pm outside the Shopper’s Drug Mart in New Glasgow.  The woman was approached by two males who sprayed her in the face with an irritant then robbed of her purse.  The two fled the area in a white Ford pickup truck driven by a female.

Subsequent investigation led New Glasgow Regional Police to believe stolen property was in Bridgewater Tuesday morning.  The Bridgewater Police General Investigation Section and the South Shore Integrated Street Crime Unit became involved at that point. 

Last night, these units supported by BPS uniformed officers arrested three suspects on Marlboro Drive and a vehicle was seized.   Police subsequently searched a residence on Ron Street in Bridgewater.  Stolen Property was recovered from the seized vehicle and evidence related to the robbery was seized in the subsequent search of a residence on Ron Street.

Two adult males will be appearing in Provincial Court in Bridgewater this afternoon at 1:30 pm.  They are charged with robbery, wearing a mask in the commission of an offence, and two counts of possession of stolen property.

An adult female was held in custody overnight and was released on a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking with conditions for the charge of robbery and two counts of possession of stolen property       this morning.

The accused are the following:

  • Justin Arthur Piercey, DOB: 830302 of Spectacle Lake, Lunenburg County
  • Jayden Piercey , DOB: 881101 of Spectacle Lake, Lunenburg County
  • Rosina Ernst, DOB: 930515 of Bridgewater

On Sunday October 6, 2013 at 2:12 am, Bridgewater Police Services members responded to a report of an altercation at Tops’l Tavern on King Street in Bridgewater.  A 40 year old male was stabbed in the upper torso with a knife. He was subsequently taken to SSRH by EHS.  The victim is currently in Intensive Care Unit with non-life threatening  injuries.  

32 year old Jahmal Leslie THOMAS of Bridgewater was arrested at the scene.  It is alleged  Jahmal THOMAS committed the offences of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. Jahmal THOMAS has been remanded to Burnside Facility in Dartmouth and will be appearing in Bridgewater Provincial Court on Monday, October 7th, 2013 at   09:30 am.

BPS members were kept quite busy last night.  At 8:43 pm several calls were received by police of a male causing a disturbance on Pine Street.  Officers subsequently located a 30 year old male hiding in a back yard.  The Lunenburg County resident was arrested for Trespassing by Night, Possession of Drugs, and Causing a Disturbance and lodged in cells overnight. 

A 55 year old Lunenburg County woman, related to the above noted male, was also arrested for Intoxication in a Public Place and lodged in cells overnight. 

At 9:15 pm as a result of a public complaint in the Victoria Road area, a 58 year old Bridgewater woman was arrested for Intoxication in Public and lodged in cells overnight.  The accused was also the subject of an outstanding warrant.

At approximately 11 pm, police received a number of complaints regarding unlocked vehicles being entered and items stolen in the vicinity of Bennett Avenue, Audrey Drive, Meldrum Avenue. 

Shortly after 2 am, a 2008 Ford Escape, which had been stolen from Meldrum Avenue, was crashed on Meldrum Avenue extension.  The vehicle sustained extensive damage in a roll over crash. 

BPS canine unit was called to the scene and a track was conducted which led to a private residence on Pleasant Street.

Additional information was received from the public later in the morning which  subsequently led Police to  arrest two (2) male youths and one adult(1) female for possession of stolen property.  Investigation is ongoing.

Last Friday October 4, 2013, members of the Bridgewater Police Service, once again assisted the Street Crime Enforcement Unit and Chester RCMP in executing a search warrant in the Northwest Cove area. Harvested marijuana and mature marijuana plants were seized, as well as production equipment. There are no charges anticipated at this time. 25lbs of processed Cannabis Marijuana was seized. In a one week period, the joint efforts of the RCMP and Bridgewater Police Services have prevented 36lbs of Cannabis Marijuana with a street value of $54,000 from becoming available on our communities’ streets.

Follow up to theft of motor vehicles/theft from motor vehicles Bridgewater.

One adult male and two male Youths are appearing in Bridgewater Provincial Court this morning to face charges for the theft of vehicles and thefts from vehicles dated as far back as the 14th of August 2013.

Tyler BRIFFETT DOB :1992-10-02 of Bridgewater is charged with theft of a 2008 Ford Escape which occurred on the 10th of October 2013. 

The two Youths appearing in court this morning have been charged in relation to the theft of 2005 Toyota Corolla, a 2001 Ford Explorer and a 2008 Ford Escape.  They will also face additional theft under $5000 charges in relation to thefts from vehicles which occurred between August and October 2013.

It is expected further charges will be laid as our investigation continues.  The other two co-accused are still in custody and will be charged and released by way of Promise to Appear and Undertaking later this morning. 

Given the large number of incidents that have occurred both in Bridgewater and in Lunenburg County, this is a complex investigation that will require some time to sort out.  BPS appreciates the public’s patience in regards to this matter.
