Subject: Man charged following thefts, brief chase (FILE #2024-241705)

BRIDGEWATER, NS – A Bridgewater man is facing charges following thefts and a brief chase.

On February 22, 2024, at about 11:05 p.m., the Bridgewater Police Service (BPS) K-9 Unit located a vehicle believed to have been stolen travelling on LaHave Street in Bridgewater.

The vehicle in question had initially been reported stolen on February 16, 2024, from a residence on Prince Street in Bridgewater.

The K-9 Unit alerted patrol members who attempted to box the vehicle within a subdivision in the Glen Allan Drive area, but the vehicle was able to flee, nearly striking a BPS vehicle as it departed.

A short chase ensued on Hirtle Drive, Aberdeen Road, and LaHave Street, until the vehicle left the roadway on Silvers Hill. The lone adult male then fled the vehicle on foot.

After a brief foot chase by patrol and K-9, the individual was arrested without incident.

Further investigation led police to recover a stolen utility trailer. This trailer was reported stolen from a business on Logan Road in Bridgewater on February 20, 2024. The trailer was loaded with a number of stolen items that have been reported missing to police over the past few weeks in Bridgewater. Items believed to be from a February 20 break-and-enter that was reported to the RCMP at the West Nova Fuels location in Wileville were also recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Casey Oickle, a 30-year-old from Bridgewater, has been remanded into custody facing a number of charges including:

  • Flight from police
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
  • Possession of a stolen trailer
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Police are contacting owners to return their property as the investigation continues. More charges are pending.

Oickle is scheduled to appear in court in Bridgewater on February 26, 2024.
