Subject: Police seeking information on graffiti incidents in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, NS – Police in Bridgewater are investigating a rash of graffiti incidents in the community over the past two weeks and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for the vandalism.

Beginning on April 29, 2024, multiple residents reported to both the Town of Bridgewater and Bridgewater Police Service that the “Diagolon flag” had been spray-painted in a number of locations on both private property and on Town of Bridgewater lands.

Diagolon has been involved in incidents monitored by the Canadian Integrated Terrorism Assessment Centre. The symbol associated with the group is a black flag with a white diagonal stripe extending from the top left-hand corner to the lower right-hand corner.

In one instance, Diagolon iconography was spray-painted on the Town of Bridgewater’s Pride staircase that connects King Street with Pleasant Street near Town Hall.

Town of Bridgewater Parks staff removed the graffiti on Town property at the expense of the Town and its taxpayers. The cost and responsibility for removing graffiti on private property is borne by property owners.

Reports of similar graffiti in other parts of Lunenburg County have been received by authorities as well.

Many of the locations in Bridgewater where Diagolon graffiti has been reported are “high traffic” areas, and police are hoping that the public may be able to assist the investigation by providing information and/or descriptions of those responsible for the acts of vandalism.

If any citizen has information about this matter, please contact Bridgewater Police Service at 902-543-2464. If you wish to make a report anonymously, you can do so via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. Crime Stoppers does not tape or trace calls or subscribe to any form of call identifier.
