Subject: Police officer struck and injured while attempting to arrest possible impaired driver
On June 12, 2022, at 10:30 p.m. Bridgewater Police Service (BPS) received a complaint of a male openly drinking liquor from a truck outside a Tim Hortons in located in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. BPS officers subsequently located the black 1999 Ford Ranger and attempted to stop the truck. When the truck pulled onto a dead-end street, it appeared that the driver, who was the lone occupant, was attempting to exit the vehicle. An officer exited the police vehicle to apprehend the driver, however the driver of the truck rapidly spun the vehicle around striking the driver side of the police vehicle before swerving directly at the BPS officer. The truck struck the officer, who went over the hood and suffered a broken foot as a result. The driver fled the area making no attempts to stop.
The truck was later found, with assistance from the Lunenburg District RCMP, abandoned near vacant cottages at 2:30 a.m. on June 13, 2022, in Middle Cornwall, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. A cell phone was found with the sim card removed in the vehicle.
A review of in-car PC footage confirmed the driver appeared to swerve to strike the police officer and also identified the driver as Joshua Creaser, a 25-year-old resident of Aylesford, Kings County, Nova Scotia. BPS has laid charges including Attempted Murder, Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Remain at an Accident Causing Bodily Harm. A warrant of arrest was issued for Creaser. Early in the afternoon of June 13, 2022, Creaser was located and arrested by the Kings District RCMP. BPS investigators are traveling to Kingston to take over custody and to continue their investigation. Creaser will be brought before the court when available.
Creaser has a serious history of impaired driving offences dating back to 2016. He is currently under charge for Impaired Driving Causing Death related to an incident that occurred in South Greenwood, Kings County, Nova Scotia, on December 19, 2021.
