Second person charged in stolen property investigation
Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026
Bridgewater Police Service has charged a second person as part of a stolen property investigation dating back to mid-September.
A 65-year-old Lunenburg County man is accused of possessing a stolen grey 2014 Volkswagen Jetta on Sept. 13. Calvin Eugene Smith is scheduled to be arraigned in provincial court in late November in Bridgewater.
The co-accused, a 38-year-old Lunenburg County woman, has already been charged with a single count of possessing property obtained by crime and an additional allegation of breaching a previous court order. Alanna Christine Brown is next due to appear in provincial court in mid-November in Bridgewater.
Allegations against the pair resulted from an officer noticing a suspected stolen vehicle while patrolling the west side of town during the overnight hours of Sept. 13.
Just after midnight on the date in question, the Bridgewater Police Service officer observed a Jetta travelling in the Bridgewater Business Park. While mobile, police checked the vehicle’s licence plate and, after running the plate, the Volkswagen was confirmed stolen from a Lunenburg County address.
Police conducted a traffic stop near the corner of King Street and Logan Road. Three people were in the vehicle. An adult female driver and adult male passenger were arrested at the scene without incident.
The third person in the Jetta was released without charge.
